My sons touch lamp is going nuts why?

My mom bought me a touch lamp with angels on it a few months ago and since then it has been in my sons bedroom for a night light becasue he is scared of his room... all of the sudden out of nowhere tonight i went to put him to bed and the damn thing went nuts and we unplugged it and plugged it in another room and it did not happen... there is nothing wrong with the outlet and crazey stuff has been happening in my house for a while were all a little creeped out what is going on
